Requirements
You will need to apply for a Non-Immigrant (B) Visa to visit the US. To do so in Afghanistan:

  • Ensure your passport is valid at least 6 months beyond your travel dates to the US and that your name and date of birth are accurate.
  • Complete the Non-Immigrant Visa Application Form (DS-160) and print the confirmation page. You must bring the printed conformation page with you to your interview; if you don’t, you will be asked to reschedule your interview. You must provide a photo as part of the online application, and can upload a digital photo provided it is taken in front of a white background and is not distorted (looks grainy or pixilated). If you cannot upload a photo online, bring two printed 2 inch x 2 inch (5cm x 5cm) photos with you to your interview appointment, along with your completed application and confirmation page. If you do not have photos, your application won’t be processed.
  • Schedule a visa appointment online through the US Embassy in Kabul. You will not be able to schedule an interview over the phone.
  • Pay the visa application fee of $160 USD before your interview. Inclusive Security will reimburse you for this fee. The fee is only payable in cash and you will pay this fee to the U.S. Embassy cashier in the Consular Section’s waiting room.
  • Have your interview. You can view a video on what the interview process is like here. These will be conducted in English, Dari, or Pashto depending on your needs. You’ll be required to enter the compound at the South Gate of the Embassy, next to ISAF headquarters and the RTA building. Please note that processing time can take up to twelve weeks from the time of interview.

Requirements
You will need to apply for a Non-Immigrant (B) Visa to visit the US. As of December 2012, the US Embassy in Sarajevo implemented new visa application procedures. Everything is done online, and this Step-by-Step Guide walks you through each step of the process. You will be asked to:

  • Create an account and complete the Non-Immigrant Visa Application Form (DS-160) online (there is no longer a written form). You must print the confirmation page and bring it with you to your interview. You must also digitally upload a photo that conforms to the following guidelines:
    • Taken recently (within the last 6 months)
    • Size (including background) must be 5 cm by 5 cm (51 mm by 51 mm).
    • Must be facing the camera, looking straight on, with the face covering approximately 50% of the photo area. Your entire face must be shown. From the crown of the head to the tip of the chin, and from hairline side to side, preferably with the ears exposed.
    • Can be color or black and white but must have a white or off-white background and no borders.
  • Choose the DHL (logistics courier) location where you want to pick up your passport and visa if it is approved. DHL locations in Bosnia are Sarajevo, Tuzla, and Banja Luka.
  • Pay the visa application fee of $160 USD. Inclusive Security will reimburse you for this fee. You will have the option to pay online with a credit card or in cash at Raiffeisen Bank, but if you choose to pay in cash it will take a few more days for the system to process your payment.
  • Schedule your visa interview. You must take the following with you to your interview:
    • Passport with an expiration date that falls after your stay in the US
    • A printed photo following the same parameters outlined above for the digital photo
    • Documents proving you have “ties” that compel you to leave the US at the end of your visit. For example, a letter from your employer indicating that you have a job to return to or copies of bills or bank statements demonstrate that you still have ties to your country of residence.
    • Proof of application fee payment
  • If your visa is approved, you will receive a tracking number from the Visa Information Service via the e-mail address you provided when scheduling your visa interview. This allows you to track your passport to the DHL location you selected.
