Women are the Backbone of South Sudan

Hilde Johnson, Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan, offered her support for the women at the closing reception of the Gender Symposium before the International Engagement Conference in December 2011. Here she focuses on how women’s efforts in the years of struggle are not being translated to political power as South Sudan builds from the ground up.
