Turning Combatants from Violence by Focusing on Families
While women in Afghanistan are often considered victims of the conflicts in their country, Samira Hamidi is working to change this. By presenting women as agents of change, Ms. Hamidi is able to push for women to use their unique perspective on reconstruction to add to the process. In January 2012, Ms. Hamidi was interviewed when she attended a colloquium with a dozen other women from around the world at the Harvard Kennedy School. Here she speaks of a project to reintegrate not only the insurgents but their families to provide a broader base for peace in the community.
